There is a lovely meditation on Insight Timer, where the
teacher starts off with a joke. This is so out of sync with the way I saw my
meditation practice? It was about being still, quieting my mind and feeling
totally connected. My first impression with the joke was it took me away from
my belief about what meditation should be, whereas in fact it was totally the
opposite. Laughing took me deeper into my practice as it helped my mind and
body be more at ease. Laughter/joy is an essential part of life.
So where in your life are you taking things too seriously? What would happen if you tried to see the funny side of a situation you may be experiencing?
This may seem hard at times. I went to a funeral recently - I lost a dear member of my family. During the funeral I recalled how funny he had been when he was alive and that stopped my tears and helped me celebrate his life.
Laughter is a great healer. So find something to make you laugh.
